I have not heard any great clammoring that DOS and NetBSD fail to boot on modern machines, and yet they both use int 12h. Are you *sure* int 12h is really broken, or do you think perhaps the breakage you're seeing is a side-effect of another bug? Does int 12h work in real mode? Exactly what hardware has this

4. if I quickly take power off and reapply, the board appears to boot, the lower LED and the seve segment flash on and off. 5 if I push the diagnostic switch the seven segment shows 1,2 3 then starts flashing again. Pretty good indication that it really has booted and is running the test eprom code.

NT 4 does not boot, nor are there any error messages. I can boot NT off of a floppy boot disk. I tried copying the NT boot files from a known good machine to the one that will not boot to no avail. Running repair does not solve the problem, nor does reinstalling NT. I also tried clearing the CMOS, and scanning for

But still the problem is that SPL doesn't copy the U-boot image correctly onto the RAM. It copies the first page of first block from NAND flash again and again. Now this could be an indication for what is going wrong here. This must be because of some configuration of NDFC done by SPL because I can see that IPL

What I want to know, is why the bloody thing will not boot? what is there in win 2k that identifies the original m/B that it was installed on, and is Not exactly - but close. WinNT/2K/XP deal with hardware quite differently from DOS/Win9x/ME, using something called the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL).

Win 2k not booting
What happened is that Windows 2000, not knowing about what XP's boot loader is, overwrote the boot loader with its own (older) version. Hence you can boot Win2K, but not XP. Boot back into the recovery console as you did before, and use the "fixboot" command...this should restore XP's boot loader.
